She was in commercials and a few television pilots. The first soap for daytime, The Bold and the Beautiful premiered in 1999. Bruckner was a teen for the film Blue Car (2002). She played a girl who had an affair with her teacher David Strathairn. Film critic Roger Ebert wrote that Bruckner manages the difficult film with total conviction. Bruckner was nominated for the "Best female leading actress" by the Independent Spirit Award. She grew up with two brothers and one sister. Hungarian was her mother tongue and she rehearsed it often in order to improve her language skills. Bruckner is a Hollywood Californian born daughter of her Hungarian dad and Russian mom. Her maternal grandparents were German. Born in Hollywood California with a father from Hungary as well as a mother from Russia. The paternal grandfather of her, who had been from Germany before, was recently separated from her. She has two sisters and an older brother.
